Jointly organized with Amity's long year partner the Hong Kong Water Supplies Department, the Walk for Living Water 2020 was held for its 10th year, to raise awareness as well as to raise funds for those without safe sanitation and drinking water at home.
The event attracted 349 participants from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Ireland and Canada, including church members and corporate, including Rotary Club of Hong Kong Harbour, Fuji Xerox HK Ltd, Ten Pao Group Holdings Ltd, FringeBacker, and the Church of the Good Shepherd. Approximately HKD 470,000 was raised in total.
To minimize the risks of COVID-19 infection through close contacts, instead of gathering walkers together at the same venue, the event this year encourage participants to conduct their own walks at a safe time and place of their choice.
With the global epidemic raging, the needs of safe drinking water and sanitation in poor areas require extra attention. The fund raised is going to be used in areas in need in Nepal, Myanmar and Sri Lanka, to build water and sanitation facilities, to improve the health and living conditions, as well as supporting awareness education on water conservation and environmental protection. To carry on the Living Water Dream, for the 10th year and beyond.
The Living Water Project started in 2010, aims to raise public awareness on the global water crisis, and encourage people to make actions, to help improving the water and sanitation situations in poor areas. The Walk for Living Water is an annual walkathon of the Project. It is held for its 10th time, have raised more than HKD 4.7 million, and support to build 30 water and sanitation facilities for villages and schools.
