Recently, many people gathered at the entrance of the village committee building in Nida, a village in Qinghai Province. They attended a ceremony to mark the delivery of solar cells, which were given by Amity and the Hong Kong-based Nethersole Fund.
Nida Village is a small place in Nangqian County, Yushu Prefecture, in natural surroundings of very low quality, economically backward and cut off from the outside world. The 97 families living here have had no access to electricity until now.
The “Task Force for the Spread of Scientific Knowledge among Ethnic Minorities of Qinghai Province” contacted Amity and Nethersole to ask them to sponsor 67 sets of solar cells, which can produce sufficient electricity for lighting, satellite TV receivers, TV sets and DVD players.
Amity project staff and leaders of the Yushu Prefecture government presented the solar cells to the villagers. After that, technicians introduced the villagers to their usage and maintenance. Village representatives presented Amity staffers with Tibetan white scarves, a banner embroidered with the words: “Caring for the snowy plateau, spreading love in Nangqian” and a letter of gratitude.
