As a main activity of the 2009 Spring Festival celebrations in Woyun Village, a singing contest organized by Amity was held on 6th February, 2009. All the villagers enjoyed themselves by appreciating or participating in the singing contest, which lasted for about 4 hours.

The 5.12 Earthquake in 2008 devastated large parts of western China and wrecked the lives of millions. Over the past 10 months, the Amity Foundation has been at the forefront in providing direly needed relief to quake victims and in the reconstruction of people’s lives. With generous donations from you and friends at home and abroad, Amity has been able to provide emergency relief supplies worth CNY 10 million for earthquake victims in the worst hit areas in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. More that 400,000 people have benefited from our efforts. Amity’s reconstruction work is now well underway.
Thirty-seven students have been selected to receive three months of zither lessons as part of the Amity-sponsored “Guqin Children Volunteer Action”. Under this scheme, which is cosponsored by Nanjing Foreign Language School, CNY 500 from each participant’s tuition fee will be passed on to “Action e 10,000“, Amity’s web-based fundraising effort for orphans.
The guqin is a seven-string musical instrument with a history of several thousand years. On 24 February, Mr. Ma Jie, vice-president of the China Guqin Association and a well-known guqin player, introduced students to the history and cultural background of the instrument. A practical lesson followed after that.
