Amity and Suning Galaxy, a Nanjing shopping mall, jointly raised RMB 19,000 to pay for the operation and treatment of five children with serious heart diseases on 4 November 2006. The fundraising drive was part of Amity's "Hopeful Hearts" project.

Amity rehabilitation training course on children with cerebral palsy

By joining hands with the Suzhou Bo'ai Rehabilitation Clinic and School, Amity successfully held a Rehabilitation Training Course on Children with CP (Cerebral Palsy) for staff from social welfare institutions (orphanages) in Jiangsu Province between Oct.23rd to 27th. Extensive knowledge of CP children and rehabilitation skills, a variety of teaching methods, learning through participation and interacting with children at the school were the outstanding features of this training program.

The Chinese government's "Project Tomorrow" seeks to offer more care for orphanage children with special medical needs. Amity will focus on cases falling outside the scope of "Project Tomorrow" so that no child in need slips through the net.

Sun Lianzi was born in 1979 and, at an early age, he contracted polio which left him paralyzed in both legs. Sun grew up in Nanjing's Children's Social Welfare Institution in Jiangsu Province. Since 1992, when he was in grade three of primary school, Amity has been supporting Sun's education.

Deaf and partially-deaf children are usually overlooked in terms of their education and other social welfare benefits. Introducing the idea of sign language being the natural and basic language of the deaf, the project is motivated by the general rights of the deaf to education and to linguistic and cultural development on their own terms.
