The Amity English training workshop for English teachers from Mainland China was held in Xinhui, Guandong on 17 to 23 July. During the workshop, participants not only received advice from English experts about how to improve their language, but also attended activity-filled talks, Oral English diagnoses and received recommendations on the “micro-teaching” sessions in which the teachers practiced what they had learnt. All participant teachers got a personal report on their speaking accuracy, and ideas for enhancement. Participants established strong bonds through learning and sharing among themselves in these between days. All participants took part in the entertaining drama evening and the Xinhui Education Bureau officers were amazed at the “all-English” production by teachers who had earlier shown speaking difficulties.

In small groups the Chinese English teachers received also individual training and recommendations

At the closing ceremony on the morning of 23th July, Chen Guixia, Secretary of the District Education Department expressed her gratitude for Lee Kum Kee Group for sponsoring the whole programme, Amity Foundation Hong Kong for tailoring the curriculum from the local textbooks and conducting the course. “I am thankful for the support and the precious opportunity for junior secondary English teachers from Xinhui to get this wonderful professional training,” she said. “The programme provides a platform for Mainland teachers to exchange ideas with professionals from Hong Kong and other nations,” she added.
